Carbonemys obibimus is one of the least aggressive creatures on the Island.

Were it not for the plethora of predators on the Island, I'm quite certain that it would spend its days basking in the sun, eating, or sleeping. Carbonemys leads a simple, solitary life. Nevertheless, it seems to be one of the most peaceful animals I have yet encountered. With its slow walking speed, the only things that keep it safe are its surprisingly fast swim speed, and its incredibly thick shell, which can absorb tremendous damage.

Carbonemys' swift swim rate, fairly high strength, superior shell defenses, and lack of real threat makes it an ideal armored mount for many survivors who shy away from violence. It can carry its rider to the ocean's resources at fairly high speed, and is not particularly dangerous to tame.

Carbonemys is a neutral creature, and will fight back only if attacked or you take one of their eggs. They will also defend their own kind.

Upon being attacked, Carbonemys can deliver quite a punishing attack, but nothing too fatal. Their extremely low movement speed allows them to be easily kited and killed for meat early on, however they have a very large amount of health, and require quite an amount of time to kill.

Carbonemys are large turtles that often stand taller than a Human. Slow and usually placid, they are protected by one of the toughest shells on the island, in which they can draw back almost completely. The shell is armed with spiny scales. The skin of feet and tail is enhanced by firmer dander. Only the lower neck area is relatively tender. Their pine strips can be used as a cutting tool. They have small but alert and often piercing eyes, most commonly red.

The giant sea turtle added in Ark's Genesis expansion is a useful pet because you can build on the back of its huge shell and use it to dive underwater while it provides you with oxygen via a breathing bubble. Of course, you'll also need a saddle to ride Megachelon, which this guide will cover further below. Taming a Megachelon is going to happen in the water, so you'll probably want to have scuba gear with you so you don't need to worry about breathing.

And while Megachelon is a passive tame, you'll want to have your best weapons with you, too. You may have to search the waters for a bit, but when one spawns they're easy to spot due to their size. They swim very slowly and occasionally breach the surface with their massive shells. Once you've found a Megachelon you want to tame, swim deep down into the ocean.

Megachelon is a passive tame, which means you don't need to knock it out, you just need to bring it some food it likes. And what it likes is a microbe swarm —a school of aggressive fish. You'll be able to spot the microbe swarm: they're small but very shiny fish, they cluster together in a circle, and can be easily seen even in dark waters. And they'll spot you, too, swarming around you when you get close you'll get a notification when they've targeted you.

Once you've got their attention, start swimming back up to the surface where the Megachelon is. Make sure the swarm is following you by stopping and treading water occasionally. Once you've lured the microbe swarm back to the Megachelon, they'll leave you alone and swim around the huge turtle instead.

As you swim beside the Megachelon, you'll see the taming process has begun—though you can't see the progress bar if you're standing on its shell so you'll have to swim around near its legs or under its body. The most important factor now is that you protect the Megachelon from taking damage while the lengthy taming process is underway. If it's hurt by a shark or any other creature, the taming meter will reset back to zero, which is immensely frustrating. So stick close by to watch for enemies and take them out immediately—this is why having another tamed swimming dino or some friends with you will be a huge help.

The Megachelon must be tamed passively with a unique mechanic; locate a Parakeet Fish School also called Microbe Swarm when they target you which can commonly be found in the deeper depths and let it target you. Slowly bring the school to the Megachelon and they should start to follow it, initiating the taming process.

Megalodons commonly attack the Megachelon so make sure you kill any of them in the vicinity. If they attack the Megachelon the taming progress drops down. Also, Sabertooth Salmon and Coelacanth will constantly spawn and attack the Parakeet Fish School and eventually kill it; you may need someone else actively killing these that spawn or acquiring more Parakeet Fish Schools to continue the taming.

In general, taming a Megachelon is at least a 2-person job in most circumstances though higher taming rates on a server can make it doable with just one. The Megachelon is tamed for its utility purposes.

Wildcard's final Genesis creature reveal for now comes in the form of the water-dwelling Giant Turtle. It's a permanent tame and big enough that players are able to build on its back, essentially turning it into a mobile water base and submersible raft.

It also grows resources on its shell and can even generate an oxygen bubble that will protect riders while underwater.

Elsewhere in its livestream, Wildcard offered a very brief tease of the new Tek Claw weapon coming in Genesis, enabling double-fisted melee attacks that get faster as players continue to pile on hits. The bulk of its attention, though, was spend on Ark's new fully voiced AI companion, which will accompany players on their travels, regardless of map.

Known as HLN-A, the new addition is available now to anyone that purchases the Genesis season pass, and is essentially a cosmetic pet in its initial guise, able to talk to players, comment on their activities, and maybe even relay some of Ark's lore. However, the version included in Genesis will, says Wildcard, be substantially upgraded.

It is not recommended that you get into a punching match with this spiky and very well-armored beast, you'll probably lose that fight. Instead you should look to a few other methods of knocking one out. Aim at the head for best results and avoid hitting the shell as it has very little effect.
