It put me off and sold them long ago. I miss that sound. I wish they all sounded the same but its just not true. I sold my vintage MS thinking I could replace it with first the mini.
Honestly is was just ok not even close to the vintage in many ways. Worst part was the noise bleeding from the filter which made it unusable for me. So I replaced that with the MSm Module. Much better build quality than the mini. However, my patches just sounded lifeless on it compared to the original. The filters were not the same. I could make the vintage one filters talk like a Mr. Oizo track not so much the modern ones. One must have a discriminating ear to hear or care about the sound differences between the original, vintage MS and the MS mini.
I can assure you that I have the MS20 mini. It sounds fantastic. And dont even get me started on how good the Boog clone sounds. Hear, hear! I thought the same thing years ago. The majority of MS mini owners would shell out a couple of hundred bucks to add this on to their MS mini. This would be a no-brainer money maker for Korg. Skip to content. What are you talking about.

The DSS-1 features the typical Korg joystick, perfect for controlling pitch-bend, vibrato, filter modulation and other effects. Keyboard controls include velocity, aftertouch, and key transpose — all programmable.
These features add a great level of expressivity to this instrument. There are many parameters to shape the newly created waveforms.
I am including a few audio examples from both the Additive and Hand-Drawn methods below in the review. These can be used in a variety of ways, often contributing greatly to the general sound of the DSS It is interesting to note how many of these original samples ended up in the ROM of very famous Korg synthesizers — especially the classic M1. I think many of these samples still hold up very well — after many years. I recorded a few examples from each diskette.
Each diskette has the capabilities of storing up to sounds four banks A, B, C, D each containing 32 sounds The great thing is that all the new samples can be edited and modified via the internal VCF and VCA parameters — so the final result is often of very warm, analog character.
Many of these sounds are staples of the mid-late s. These are a few audio demos of some of these presets:. The drum sounds are also fully editable. This box is the bomb! One of my favorite samplers is still my Roland W, which samples at a maximum of 30kHz — very similar to this little Korg sampler. It is a rhythm sampler, very immediate and easy to use. The separate Delay is musical and lends itself very well to electronica styles. The sampling memory is a generous 90 seconds. Type of resource. The X5D is an entry level keyboard from Korg. Being an entry-level keyboard, the usual luxuries such as aftertouch and an internal power supply have been omitted, and it lacks an arpeggiator or a sequencer, however it more than makes up for this in sound.
In addition to its General MIDI sound set, the X5D comes loaded with two banks of preset sounds that can be loaded alternately, however you can overwrite the preset sounds and store up to one hundred program sounds and one hundred combination sounds of your own.
The preset sounds vary widely, from complex pads and SFX sounds, to pianos, organs and orchestral instruments. Some of these sound dated in this day and age, the piano sound is a little on the thin side to say the least, but the string, pad and organ sounds can still hold their own against much newer keyboards!
